Places To Visit in Kamshet
Kamshet is a small town on the old Mumbai–Pune highway with an outsized collection of attractions nearby.
Bedsa Caves
Ancient Buddhist rock-cut caves from the 1st century BC. Less visited than Karla, more intimate. The main chaitya hall has 26 tall octagonal pillars with elaborate carvings. A narrow corridor leads to the cave — the darkness inside and the quality of the carvings make it feel genuinely ancient. Distance: 8 km from Kamshet.
Bhaja Caves
Twenty-two rock-cut caves on a forested hillside, 10 km from Kamshet. A seasonal waterfall cascades next to the complex during monsoon. The main cave has a wooden ceiling (one of the oldest surviving wooden ceilings in India) and 18 pillars. A stupa cluster inside is particularly atmospheric.
Tikona Fort (Triangle Fort)
A sharp triangular fort peak rising above Pawna Lake, 20 km from Kamshet. The 45-minute climb is steep and excellent. Summit views cover Pawna Lake, Tung Fort and the Sahyadri range. Base: Tikona Peth village.
Paragliding Launch Sites
Kamshet has three main paragliding sites — Tower Hill, Shelar and Kondeshwar. Each offers slightly different flying conditions. Tower Hill is the most popular for tandem flights and has a large landing zone in the valley below.
Andharwadi Lake
A quiet, largely unknown reservoir near Kamshet with good birdwatching and peaceful lakeside walks. No commercial activity around it — just nature.
Lohagad Fort (25 km)
One of the most impressive Maratha forts, 25 km from Kamshet. The fort road winds up to a high ridge and the famous "Vinchu Kata" (scorpion's tail) walkway offers dizzying views. Best combined with Bhaja Caves for a full-day outing.
