How To Reach Lonavala

Lonavala is one of the most accessible hill stations in Maharashtra, well-connected by road and rail from both Pune and Mumbai.

From Pune (65 km)

By Car: The Mumbai–Pune Expressway (NH48) is the fastest route — about 60–70 minutes in normal traffic. Take Exit 16 (Lonavala) off the expressway. On weekends, expect 30–45 minutes of additional time near the expressway entry.

By Train: Pune Junction to Lonavala has frequent local and intercity trains. Journey time is 1 hour 15 minutes. The Deccan Express, Indrayani Express and multiple local trains run daily. Lonavala station is walkable to the town centre.

From Mumbai (95 km)

By Car: Take the Mumbai–Pune Expressway from Khopoli. Journey time is 1.5–2 hours depending on traffic. The Western Express Highway or Eastern Express Highway connects to the expressway. Friday evenings see heavy traffic — expect 3+ hours.

By Train: Mumbai CST or Dadar to Lonavala on the main line. Multiple trains daily — the Deccan Express and Koyna Express are the most popular. Journey time: 2 hours 15 minutes. Book in advance on weekends.

From Nashik (185 km)

Take NH160 toward Pune then connect to the Mumbai–Pune Expressway. Total drive time is about 3.5–4 hours.

From Aurangabad (285 km)

Drive via NH753 toward Pune and then take the expressway to Lonavala. About 4.5–5 hours by road. No direct train.

Getting Around Lonavala

Self-drive: Your own car or bike gives the most flexibility — you can reach Bhushi Dam, Tiger Point, Lion's Point and Rajmachi in a single day.
Rental bikes & scooters: Shops near the railway station offer two-wheeler rentals — a practical option if you arrived by train.
Uber / Ola: Available in Lonavala for local sightseeing and point-to-point transfers.
Walking: The town centre, Lonavala Lake and the market are all walkable from the railway station.
