Places To Visit in Mulshi
Mulshi is 40 km from Pune and a world apart from city life. Here are the must-visit spots.
Mulshi Dam and Lake
The 1.5 km long dam holds back one of Maharashtra's largest reservoirs. The lake stretches 36 km and is flanked by forested hills on all sides. The view from the dam road — especially at sunrise — is one of the most beautiful in the Sahyadris. During monsoon the overflow creates a dramatic cascade from the dam gates.
Tamhini Ghat
A spectacular mountain pass road connecting Mulshi to the Konkan coast. The 30 km drive is lined with waterfalls, dense jungle and occasional viewpoints. During monsoon (July–September) it is among the most dramatic drives in India. Several pullouts have chai stalls — stop at any of them for a cup and the view.
Tung Fort
A compact but beautifully situated fort from the Maratha period, about 15 km from Mulshi. The short trek (45 minutes) passes through farmland and forest before reaching the rocky summit. Views of Pawna Lake and the twin forts of Tikona and Lohagad are visible from the top.
Tribal Villages of Mulshi
Several Mawali and Katkari tribal villages dot the interior of Mulshi. Some resorts offer cultural walks to these villages where you can see traditional crafts, local farming practices and the unique architecture of tribal homes. A respectful and eye-opening way to understand the region.
Andharban Forest
One of Maharashtra's most celebrated forest treks, Andharban ('dark forest') is a 13 km trail through dense rainforest that ends at Bhira Dam. The trail descends 900 metres through thick canopy where barely any sunlight filters through. Best done with a guide, October to January.
Sakhari Ghat Viewpoint
A lesser-known viewpoint above the Tamhini Ghat road with views down into the Bhira valley. Accessible by a short walk from the road. Few tourists know about it — you'll often have the view to yourself.
Kolad (Day Trip)
About 50 km beyond Mulshi toward the Konkan, Kolad is the white-water rafting capital of Maharashtra. The Kundalika river offers excellent grade 2–3 rapids from July through March. An easy day trip from a Mulshi villa base.
Stay at a lakeside villa in Mulshi and use it as your base to explore all these spots at your own pace.
