How To Reach Mahabaleshwar

Mahabaleshwar is 120 km from Pune and 260 km from Mumbai. There is no railway station — road is the only way.

From Pune (120 km)

By Car: Take NH48 toward Satara, then turn onto NH166 at Panchgani junction. Total journey: 2.5–3 hours. The last 30 km through Panchgani is a scenic ghat road — drive carefully, especially in monsoon.

By Taxi / Cab: Pune to Mahabaleshwar outstation taxi or Uber Outstation costs ₹2500–3500 one way depending on vehicle type.

From Mumbai (260 km)

By Car: Mumbai–Pune Expressway to Pune, then NH48 to Satara, NH166 to Mahabaleshwar. Total: 5–6 hours. Start before 7 AM to avoid expressway traffic.

From Satara (60 km)

Satara is the nearest railway junction. Trains from Pune and Mumbai stop at Satara. From Satara station, hire a taxi or take a shared jeep to Mahabaleshwar (1 hour, ₹800–1200 for taxi, ₹150 for shared jeep).

Nearest Airport

Pune Airport — 120 km, 3 hours by road. Hire a cab directly from the airport.

Road Condition Note

The Panchgani–Mahabaleshwar road is a narrow ghat road. During monsoon (July–August), it can get foggy and slippery. Drive at 20–30 kmph on the ghats. The road is closed occasionally during heavy rainfall — check Maharashtra road conditions before travelling.
